A little corner of France in Užupis

La Madeleine is a beloved French bakery and café at Užupio g. 13, on the edge of the bohemian Užupis quarter just across the Vilnia from the Old Town. It has built a loyal following for its charming, cosy atmosphere and genuinely authentic feel — the kind of small bakery where the smell of fresh-baked French buns greets you at the door each morning.

The pastries are the headline. Croissants here are repeatedly singled out as among the best in the city, and they sit alongside a wide selection of traditional and modern French cakes, tarts and éclairs. Everything is handmade. For something more substantial, the café serves a light lunch of savoury quiches, soups and salads, plus mushroom pastries and Caesar salads — an easy, unhurried stop between Old Town sights and an Užupis wander.

Good to know

Beyond daily café service, La Madeleine offers hands-on confectionery workshops, catering for business meetings and private venue rental at its Naugarduko g. location — a nice touch for a special event. The popular honey cake ('medaus pyragas') is reportedly available only from Friday to Sunday, so plan accordingly if it's on your list.

Delivery is available through Wolt and Bolt Food if you'd rather bring the pastries to you. Confirm current opening hours on the bakery's own channels before visiting, as small kitchens adjust them seasonally.
