A prison turned bar, stage and meeting point
Lukiškių kalėjimas 2.0 occupies the imposing brick-and-stone prison at Lukiškių skg. 6, on the edge of the city centre near Lukiškės Square. Opened in 1904 and in use as a prison until 2019, the complex has been repurposed into a sprawling cultural hub — a place where bars, street-food stalls, art studios, concerts and exhibitions now fill the old cell blocks and exercise yards. The contrast between the sombre history and the lively present is exactly the point, and it makes for one of the most unusual places in Vilnius to grab a drink or a bite.
It is best known internationally as a filming location for 'Stranger Things' Season 4, where it stood in for the Soviet prison holding Chief Hopper. That fame draws visitors, but the day-to-day draw is the atmosphere: open courtyards for summer events, pop-up bars, food trucks and a constantly changing programme of culture set against genuinely eerie surroundings.
Good to know
The main visitor draw is the guided tours, consistently praised for their engaging, often darkly humorous storytelling. You can pick a history-focused day tour suitable for all ages or an intense, adults-only (18+) night tour. Much of the food, drink and event activity is seasonal, peaking in the warmer months when the courtyards open up for concerts and festivals, so the offering on any given day varies.
Because programming, tours and on-site bars change with the season and the events calendar, check the venue's own channels for current tour times, ticket prices and what is open before you go. Some areas are only accessible on a guided tour rather than as a casual walk-in.
