What to expect

Miesto Laboratorija (City Laboratory) is a non-profit community hub in Sapiegos Park, in the leafy Antakalnis district, that grew out of a local urban-gardening initiative. It's far more than a café: the site combines a neighbourhood coffee spot with an event space, a gallery, educational gardens and a DIY children's playground, all run on a thoroughgoing sustainability ethos. Decor is upcycled, the kitchen serves only on second-hand dishes and uses reusable containers for takeaway, and there's a seasonal gardening club for community members to tend the urban garden.

Visitors love the cosy, relaxed atmosphere and rate it as a genuinely welcoming spot for families, friends and pets. The menu is deliberately small and changes often, leaning on fresh, simple cooking, with the weekend brunch the most popular reason to visit. It can be a little hidden and service is occasionally slow, but the unique character and good homemade-style food more than make up for it. Note this is also a non-canonical address — the place is primarily listed under our see-do section.
