The short version
  • Widely called the best fish and chips in Vilnius — crisp, non-greasy batter on fresh cod.
  • A small counter inside a food hall by the main train and bus stations: a perfect first or last stop.
  • Very generous portions and excellent value, with homemade sauces and mushy peas.
  • Exceptionally warm, welcoming service, often from the owners themselves.
  • Card payment only; may close early if the day's fresh fish sells out.

Vilnius's favourite fish and chips, by the station

Paikis is a specialist fish-and-chips spot tucked into a food hall on Geležinkelio Street, right by Vilnius's main train and bus stations — which makes it an ideal first bite on arrival or a last one before you leave. It's a focused, casual counter, and locals and visitors alike rate its fish and chips among the very best in the city, with some cheerfully claiming it beats the UK originals.

The draw is simple done well: fresh cod in a light, crisp, genuinely non-greasy batter, very generous portions, a line-up of homemade sauces and a proper green-pea side for an authentic touch. Churros wait for dessert if you've still got room. Just as memorable is the welcome — service is warm and attentive, often from the owners, with complimentary nibbles while you wait.

Two practical notes: payment is card only, and because the fish is fresh, Paikis sometimes closes earlier than posted once it sells out — so don't leave it too late if your heart's set on a portion. (There's also a sister location at the Downtown Food Hall in the centre.)
