A view from a car window showing a grey Volvo parked on the left, a paved path, and a distant view of the Vilnius modern skyline under a bright blue sky filled with wispy white clouds.
The short version
  • Sweeping panoramas over the Old Town, Užupis and the Paupys district from one elevated platform.
  • A favourite sunset spot, and a popular vantage point for New Year's Eve fireworks.
  • An adjacent café with armchairs lets you take in the view over coffee and cake.
  • Easy to reach on foot from the Old Town along Subačiaus Street.

One of the city's best free viewpoints

The Subačiaus Observation Deck sits on a rise at the eastern edge of the Old Town and delivers one of the most rewarding free views in Vilnius. From the platform you look out over the historic centre's spires and red roofs, across to the artistic Užupis quarter, and toward the modern Paupys district by the river. It's the kind of panorama that photographers seek out and that turns a casual stroll into a highlight.

It is at its most magical around sunset, when the city softens and glows, and it's a long-standing favourite for watching New Year's Eve fireworks. Right beside the deck, a small café puts out armchairs and other comfortable seating, so you can settle in with a coffee and a slice of cake while the cityscape does the work.

Good to know

Beyond the view, the café offers coffee, cakes and desserts — look out for poppy-seed pie — and breakfast plates such as Eggs Benedict, making it a pleasant place to pause rather than just a quick photo stop. Note that in summer the trees can partly obscure parts of the scenery, and the deck can get crowded at peak times and around sunset.

Reaching it is a straightforward walk up from the Old Town along Subačiaus Street. The viewpoint itself is open and free; for the café, confirm current hours and the menu on its own channels before planning around it.

Best for
panoramic views, sunsets, photography and a coffee with a view.
  • Trees can partly block the view in summer; expect crowds at peak times.
  • The viewpoint is free; check the café's hours separately.
