Subačiaus Observation Deck

The Subačiaus Observation Deck (Subačiaus apžvalgos aikštelė) is a small hilltop platform on Subačiaus gatvė that delivers one of the most rewarding free views in Vilnius — a sweeping panorama across the Old Town, the artistic Užupis district and the modern Paupys quarter. From the equipped ledge you can pick out the Three Crosses, Gediminas' Tower, the Europa Tower and the Old Town's church spires, with stationary binoculars and a panoramic board to help you name them.

Three Crosses — Vilnius, Lithuania

It is an especially magical place at sunset, drawing photographers and sightseers alike, and it's a popular gathering point for New Year's Eve fireworks. An adjacent café with armchairs lets you settle in with a coffee and a slice of cake while you take in the cityscape. The viewpoint is free and open around the clock, so it works early or late.

A couple of honest caveats: trees can partly obscure the view in high summer, and the small deck can get crowded at peak times and at sunset. It's an easy add-on to a wander through Užupis or the Old Town — and a fine alternative if you'd rather not climb a tower. (This spot is also listed in our Eat & Drink directory for its café.)

Where it is

Gediminas' Tower & Castle HillThe red-brick tower atop Castle Hill is the symbol of Vilnius and its easiest panoramic viewpoint, reachable on foot or by funicular.
