A 19th-century address on the Bernardine Garden

Hotel Vilnia occupies one of the prettiest corners of the capital: a magnificent 19th-century building at Maironio gatvė 1, looking across to the greenery of the Bernardine Garden, with St Anne's Church, Cathedral Square and Gediminas' Tower all within a short stroll. Cross the little river behind the garden and you're in Užupis — few hotels put this much of Vilnius within five minutes of the front door.

Inside, the historic grandeur has been brightened by a contemporary renovation. Rooms are stylish, cosy and spotless, with comfortable bedding and modern bathrooms, and the whole operation is polished enough to have earned a Michelin Key nod. Breakfast is the daily highlight — a varied buffet that guests rate among the city's better spreads.

Good to know

The staff are a quiet strength: reviews repeatedly mention warm welcomes, useful local pointers and flexibility with early check-ins where possible. For sightseeing on foot, the location is close to unbeatable — nearly everything on a first-timer's list is within a fifteen-minute walk.

The honest caveats are mostly small. Standard and classic rooms run snug, fine for a short stay but tight for spreading out, so consider booking up a category. Some guests report night-time street noise from passing cars and thin walls that carry sound from neighbouring bathrooms, a few find the beds firmer than they'd like, and the in-house restaurant and bar have been known to close or run limited service at quiet times.
