A zen vegetarian hideaway with a yoga ashram

VEGAFE (Jogos mityba) is a small vegetarian café on Augustinų gatvė, on the western edge of the Old Town near the Augustinian church. It is connected to a yoga ashram in the same building, and the atmosphere reflects that: calm, unhurried and frequently described by visitors as a peaceful, zen-like hideaway from the city outside. There is a 'no shoes' policy at the entrance, and you can choose between standard tables or traditional low tables with cushions for a more authentic experience.

The food earns consistent praise as delicious and high-quality, and it makes a genuine change of pace from the meat-heavy plates found elsewhere in the city. The kitchen leans towards healthy, from-scratch cooking, and vegan options are available — just be sure to specify when you order, as not everything is vegan by default.

Good to know

The menu runs to hummus, a rotating range of soups, pumpkin gnocchi, momo-style dumplings and warming drinks such as yoga tea and Ayurvedic chai. Most visits are overwhelmingly positive, though a few diners have found service inconsistent and the odd dish a little pricey. Remember the shoes-off rule before you arrive, and check the latest hours and prices, which can change.
