A cosy vegan café and art space in the Old Town

Vieta is a small, much-loved vegan café on Šv. Ignoto gatvė, right in the heart of the Old Town in central Vilnius. As one of the city's oldest vegetarian spots — it transitioned to a fully vegan menu in 2022 — it has a devoted following, and the warm, exceptionally friendly service is the first thing most people mention. The atmosphere is cosy and unpretentious, with music often playing from a vinyl record player, and many guests describe it as feeling like visiting a friend's or grandmother's home.

The space also works as a gallery, with rotating exhibitions from emerging local photographers, painters and graphic artists on the walls. The food is creative and homemade in style, fairly priced, and wins over committed vegans and curious meat-eaters alike. Its main limitation is simply its size: the room is tiny, so it can get crowded and lively, and you may need to wait for a table at busy times.

Good to know

The fully plant-based menu spans snacks, salads, panini and hearty mains, with house-made pesto and plant-based cheeses such as feta and mozzarella turning up across the dishes. Look out for creative mains like baked tofu steak, stuffed portobello and a Beyond Meat steak, plus crowd-pleasers including a vegan burger, cold beetroot soup (šaltibarščiai), kombucha and a homemade 'Snickers'. There is a daily-changing menu and lunch specials worth asking about. Prices and hours change over time, so check current details before you go.
