Margutis Easter Egg
The Margutis (Easter Egg) sculpture is one of those small, surprising pieces of public art that makes Vilnius fun to wander. Weighing around 300 kg and perched on a granite column at a busy intersection near Pylimo gatvė, on the edge of the Old Town, it's an unexpected splash of colour amid the city streets — and a popular spot for photos.

The egg has a backstory rooted in Užupis. It was originally installed in 2001 to symbolise the rebirth of the bohemian Užupis district, before later being moved to its current home. It's now periodically redecorated by various artists, so its appearance changes over time, and the small square around it offers benches for a quick rest.
As a landmark it works best as a quick stop or a meeting point rather than a destination in its own right — easy to fold into a walk between the Old Town, the Gates of Dawn area and Užupis just across the river.
Where it is
Gate of Dawn (Aušros Vartai) — The last surviving city gate of Vilnius, housing a revered chapel with the icon of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn.
