Miesto Laboratorija

Miesto Laboratorija ('City Laboratory') is a quirky, community-focused hub in the Antakalnis area of Vilnius that combines a neighbourhood café, educational urban gardens, an event space, a gallery and a children's playground. Operated by a non-profit, its whole philosophy revolves around sustainability: upcycled decor, only second-hand dishes, reusable containers for take-out, and a seasonal gardening club where community members tend the urban garden.

Visitors love the cosy, relaxed atmosphere and praise it as a welcoming spot for families, friends and even pets. The menu is deliberately small and changes often, focusing on fresh, simple dishes — coffee, pancakes, bagels, varškės apkepas (curd cake) and eggs Benedict among them — and the weekend brunch is the standout, widely recommended.

The location can be a bit hidden and service occasionally slow, but the unique charm and genuine community spirit make it a cherished local gem rather than a polished tourist café. Hours and the brunch schedule are best confirmed on the venue's site before visiting.
