A sunny day on Pilies Street in Vilnius, showing pedestrians walking along the cobblestone road lined with historic buildings, outdoor cafes, and hanging flags.
The short version
  • Legendary 'sūrio piršteliai' (cheese fingers) are the must-order — generous and famously good value.
  • A cosy, unpretentious basement pub atmosphere; simple, dated decor that regulars find part of the charm.
  • Hearty, budget-friendly Lithuanian pub food in big portions — easy to share between two.
  • A few steps from the Old Town at Tilto g. 2a; often busy, and frequently cash-only.

A Vilnius institution built on cheese fingers

Despite the name, Klaipėda Old Town (Klaipėdos Senamiestis) sits in Vilnius, just north of the historic core at Tilto g. 2a, an easy walk from Cathedral Square and Gediminas Avenue. It is a true local institution — a no-frills basement spot that locals and in-the-know visitors return to for one thing above all: the legendary cheese fingers, or 'sūrio piršteliai', fried golden, served hot, and famous for both their size and their value.

The room is simple and a little dated, but that is rather the point. The atmosphere is a cosy, unpretentious pub — the kind of place you come for hearty food and cold beer rather than for design. Portions are large and prices are reasonable, so it remains one of the better budget picks within striking distance of the Old Town.

Good to know

Come hungry: the cheese fingers are enormous, so consider sharing a plate and pairing it with a bowl of cold beetroot soup ('šaltibarščiai') or chicken fingers. Service can be hit-or-miss and the place gets busy, so a little patience helps. Importantly, card payment is frequently not accepted, so bring cash to be safe.

It works best as a relaxed, late-leaning stop for beer and snacks rather than a polished sit-down dinner. Confirm current opening hours on the venue's own channels before you go, as small kitchens adjust them seasonally.
