Science in a historic power plant
The Energy and Technology Museum occupies the building that was once Vilnius's first public power station, on the north bank of the Neris. That heritage is the whole point: cavernous turbine halls, exposed machinery and original industrial fittings form the backdrop to a modern, hands-on museum about science, energy and technology. It is the largest technical museum in Lithuania, and its exhibits reward curiosity — most are interactive, so children and adults alike end up pulling levers, pressing buttons and testing ideas rather than just reading labels.

The headline attraction is the show in the Transformation Hall (Virsmo salė), where two of the largest Tesla coils in the Baltics crackle to life inside a Faraday cage — a separate-ticket spectacle worth timing your visit around. Elsewhere, the 'Adrenalinas' exhibit lets you feel gravity and test your reaction time, and a rotating programme of lectures, labs and seasonal events keeps the museum changing through the year.

Good to know
The museum is at Rinktinės g. 2, on the Šnipiškės side of the river, an easy walk or short ride from the Old Town. It is a generous space — many visitors find a single trip fills three to four hours, especially with children — so allow plenty of time, and consider a weekday to avoid the busiest crowds. After the exhibits, head up to the rooftop terrace for a panoramic look across Vilnius. Opening hours, ticket prices and the schedule for the Tesla coil show change seasonally, so check the museum's website (etm.lt) before you go.
