What you're visiting

The Glass Quarter (Stiklių kvartalas) is one of the prettiest corners of Vilnius Old Town — a small tangle of narrow cobbled streets centred on Stiklių and Švarco lanes, with a romantic, almost medieval atmosphere. Wandering them you'll pass jewellery galleries, artisan workshops, independent boutiques, cafés, restaurants and bars, all tucked into low historic buildings.

Love Vilnius

The district takes its name from the glassblowers and goldsmiths who worked here for centuries; it sits on the edge of what was historically a Jewish quarter, with more than 600 years of layered history behind its quiet façades. Formally relaunched in 2018 by a local community initiative, it now blends that heritage with a living scene of contemporary craftspeople, jewellers and local artists.

Visiting and atmosphere

There's no ticket and no opening time — the Glass Quarter is simply a set of streets to walk, and that's how to enjoy it. Come in the daytime to browse the workshops and galleries, or in the evening when the lanes are lit and the cafés glow; both have their charm, and the quarter is reliably one of the most photogenic parts of the Old Town. Seasonal art installations and decorations appear through the year, especially around Christmas.

Because the streets are short and interconnected, it's easy to fold the Glass Quarter into a wider Old Town walk — it sits a few minutes from the main squares and the university. Give yourself time to duck into the small shops; the craft and jewellery here is a step above the usual souvenir fare.

Nearby in the Old Town

The Glass Quarter sits in the dense northern half of the Old Town, within an easy stroll of Cathedral Square, Gediminas Castle and the university courtyards. It's an ideal detour between bigger sights — a place to slow down, shop and photograph rather than tick off a monument.
