The short version
  • An authentic French café experience with a cozy, charming atmosphere
  • Croissants regularly named among the best in Vilnius
  • Traditional and modern French pastries, cakes, tarts and éclairs
  • Savoury lunch options including quiche, soups and salads
  • Hands-on confectionery workshops and private venue rental at the Naugarduko g. location

What to expect

La Madeleine is a small, much-loved French bakery and café that has built a quiet following for its warm, slightly old-fashioned charm and friendly staff. The display case is the draw: a wide selection of traditional and modern French pastries, cakes and tarts, with croissants that are repeatedly singled out as some of the best in Vilnius. Pair one with a coffee and it makes an easy morning stop, or come at lunchtime for the savoury side of the menu.

Beyond pastries, the kitchen turns out quiches, mushroom pastries, soups and Caesar salads, so it works as a light-lunch spot as well as a coffee break. Regulars also mention the honey cake (medaus pyragas), which is reportedly baked only from Friday to Sunday, and classic éclairs. When you can't make it in, La Madeleine is available for delivery through apps such as Wolt and Bolt Food.

Good to know

The Užupio g. café sits right on the edge of the bohemian Užupis district, an easy detour from the Old Town and a natural pairing with a wander across the Vilnia river. Because the room is small and the pastries popular, the best croissants can sell out, so earlier in the day is the safer bet. La Madeleine is one of Vilnius's stronger international bakeries, and you'll find it cross-listed in our Eat & Drink directory for hours and contact details.

Opening hours and the workshop schedule can change seasonally, so check the bakery's own channels before a special trip rather than relying on a fixed timetable.
